ISOPLAN®-KSK - Self-adhesive bitumen sealing membrane for reliable building waterproofing
ISOPLAN®-KSK is a self-adhesive, cold-applied polymer bitumen sealing membrane for waterproofing buildings indoors and outdoors. The membrane is suitable for waterproofing basement exterior walls, retaining walls, balconies, terraces, floor slabs and light wells and can be easily applied to vertical and horizontal building components.
ISOPLAN®-KSK is used for building waterproofing against ground moisture and non-accumulating seepage water as well as against non-pressing water according to DIN 18195-4 / DIN 18195-5.
Important note: Do not use as the top layer in roofing applications, as the membrane is not permanently UV-resistant.
Why choose ISOPLAN®-KSK?
- Cold self-adhesive - fast application without flame
- Good workability at low temperatures
- Immediately waterproof and driving rain-resistant
- Crack-bridging - reliable sealing even with slight substrate movement
- Solvent-free
- Clean overlap thanks to edge strips with release liners on both sides
Typical applications
- Basement exterior walls and retaining walls
- Balconies and terraces
- Floor slabs
- Light wells
- Building waterproofing against ground moisture / non-accumulating seepage water and non-pressing water
Substrate & preparation
- Suitable substrates: dense concrete, plaster PII b / PIII b according to DIN 18550, standard masonry, e.g. brick, calcium silicate brick, lightweight concrete, and aerated concrete
- The substrate must be smooth, firm, load-bearing, dust-free and dry, free from voids, cavities, cracks, burrs and adhesion-inhibiting layers such as tar, formwork oil or old coatings
- Form fillets at transitions from horizontal to vertical surfaces, e.g. with triangular tape
- Primer: Prime the substrate with a system primer, e.g. COLZUMIX® bonding primer or primer V, and allow it to dry completely
- Approximate drying time: approx. 2 hours at 20 °C / 50 % relative humidity. Apply the membrane within the next 6 hours after drying, otherwise prime again.
Application
- Apply a 20-30 cm wide reinforcement strip of ISOPLAN®-KSK to corners and edges in advance and press firmly with a rubber roller
- Lay out the membrane, cut it to size and roll it up again. Remove the release film at the start of the membrane, align it and bond it by gradually removing the release film.
- Press evenly from the centre outwards, avoid folds and air bubbles, then roll firmly with a rubber roller
- Overlap: remove the release strip and bond the next membrane with approx. 8 cm overlap
- On vertical surfaces, secure the upper end of the waterproofing layer with plaster rails or capping strips
- Note: If condensation forms on the primed surface, reliable bonding is not possible. The substrate must be dry.
Protection of waterproofing / perimeter insulation
Insulation boards can be fixed immediately after waterproofing using the spot bonding method. After installing protection, perimeter insulation or drainage boards, the excavation pit should be backfilled within 72 hours according to specification. Avoid point and line loads that could press into the waterproofing layer.
