DOBAU®-1KS – reliable waterproofing for below-ground structural components in accordance with DIN 18533
DOBAU®-1KS is a one-component, polystyrene-filled and polymer-modified thick bitumen coating (PMBC) for structural waterproofing of below-ground components in accordance with DIN 18533. The material is solvent-free, ready to use and meets the requirements of DIN EN 15814 (PMBC – W1, CB2, C1, R3).
Why DOBAU®-1KS?
- Ready to use – no mixing, apply directly from the container
- Thixotropic formulation – application of up to approx. 7 l/m² in one working step possible
- Elastic & crack-bridging – reliable waterproofing even when movement occurs
- High heat resistance as well as high flexibility even at low temperatures
- High ageing resistance
- Can also be applied well on damp substrates
- Solvent-free – environmentally friendly
Typical applications
- Waterproofing of basement exterior walls and below-ground wall surfaces
- Waterproofing in the area of the floor slab / wall junction (including the face side of the floor slab approx. 100 mm)
- Wall base areas and transitions in below-ground zones
- Detail solutions (e.g. penetrations, movement joints) in accordance with DIN 18533-3 – depending on the water exposure class
Application – for professional results
- Substrate: sound, even, free from cavities, ridges, open cracks and contamination.
- Fill unclosed depressions > 5 mm (e.g. mortar pockets, open joints, spalled areas) with suitable mortar.
- Level substrates if necessary (e.g. thin/render levelling plaster, sealing slurry or scratch coat).
- Primer: For better adhesion, DOBAU® Duo Primer (solvent-free) is required.
- Briefly stir the material in the container using a slow-running mixer (anchor stirrer).
- Apply like plaster: at least 2 coats (with or without reinforcing insert) using a trowel/spatula/smoothing trowel.
- The 1st coat must be sufficiently dry so that it is not damaged by subsequent work.
- Weather conditions: Component surface and ambient temperature > 5 °C. Protect from rain and frost during application and drying.
- Clean tools with water while still fresh.
Consumption & layer thicknesses (guide values)
Practical wet film thicknesses depend on the substrate. The waterproofing is applied in 2 coats.
| W1.1-E |
Ground moisture / non-pressing water: minimum dry film thickness dmin 3 mm, wet film thickness approx. 4.0 mm |
| W1.2-E |
Minimum dry film thickness dmin 3 mm, wet film thickness approx. 4.0 mm |
| W4-E |
Splash water at the wall base and capillary water: minimum dry film thickness dmin 3 mm, wet film thickness approx. 4.0 mm |
Note: In accordance with DIN 18533, an additional layer thickness allowance (dz) of at least 25% of the minimum dry film thickness must be included (increase the wet film thickness accordingly).
Do not forget the protective layer
According to DIN 18533, structural waterproofing must be provided with an additional protective layer (only after sufficient drying). Suitable options include EPS/XPS rigid foam boards, dimpled membranes with slip layer or foam glass boards. Protective layers can be spot-bonded with PMBC (approx. 1–2 l/m²).
