ISOPLAN®-KSK – self-adhesive bitumen waterproofing membrane for reliable structural waterproofing
ISOPLAN®-KSK is a self-adhesive, cold-applied polymer-bitumen waterproofing membrane for sealing structures in indoor and outdoor areas. The membrane is suitable for the waterproofing of external basement walls, retaining walls, balconies, terraces, base slabs and light wells and can be easily applied on vertical as well as horizontal components. ISOPLAN®-KSK is used for structural waterproofing against ground moisture and non-accumulating seepage water as well as against non-pressing water (in accordance with DIN 18195-4 / DIN 18195-5).
Important note: Do not use as the top layer in roof applications, as the membrane is not permanently UV-resistant.
Why ISOPLAN®-KSK?
-
Cold self-adhesive – fast application without an open flame
-
Easy to apply at low temperatures
-
Immediately watertight and resistant to driving rain
-
Crack-bridging – reliable waterproofing even with slight substrate movement
-
Solvent-free
-
Clean overlaps thanks to release strips on both side edges
Typical applications
Substrate & preparation
-
Suitable substrates: dense concrete, renders/plasters PII b / PIII b (DIN 18550), compliant masonry (e.g. brick, sand-lime brick, lightweight concrete), aerated concrete.
-
The substrate must be smooth, sound, load-bearing, dust-free and dry; free from honeycombing, voids, cracks, burrs and any adhesion-reducing layers (e.g. tar, formwork oil, old coatings).
-
At transitions from horizontal to vertical surfaces, form fillets/coves (e.g. using a triangular fillet strip).
-
Primer: Prime the substrate with a system primer (e.g. COLZUMIX® adhesion primer / Primer V) and allow it to dry completely.
-
Drying guideline: approx. 2 hours at around 20 °C / 50% RH. Bond the membrane within the next 6 hours after drying (otherwise prime again).
Application – for professional results
-
For corners/edges, first apply a 20–30 cm wide reinforcement strip of ISOPLAN®-KSK and press down firmly with a rubber roller.
-
Lay out the membrane, cut to size, then roll it back up. Peel off the release film at the start, align the membrane and bond it by continuing to remove the release film.
-
Press down evenly from the centre, avoid wrinkles/air bubbles, then roll firmly with a rubber roller.
-
Overlap: remove the release strip and bond the next sheet with approx. 8 cm overlap.
-
On vertical surfaces, secure the upper termination of the waterproofing with plaster stop profiles or termination bars.
-
Note: If condensation forms on the primed surface, reliable bonding is not possible – the substrate must be dry.
Protection of the waterproofing / perimeter insulation
Immediately after waterproofing, insulation boards can be fixed using spot bonding. After installing protection/perimeter insulation/drainage boards, the excavation should (as specified) be backfilled within 72 hours. Avoid point and line loads that could indent the waterproofing.
